Making rice cakes-Trial

 Janualy 22, 2007

Most of Japanese do Mochi-tsuki for new year season. In old time, I used to joined to the event for the area community in my hometown. But now, there are very few chances to see and experience them. We are worried about a tradition event of Japan declining. I'm planning to do Japanese traditional way to making rice cake. This is the first trial to do it. Later, we will do it for the party.
KURUMI MOCHI Rice cake with walnut sauce
ZUNDA MOCHI Rice cake with mashed beans
In my hometown Sendai, I used to have rice cake with walnut sauce and mashed beans sauce.
I came to Tokyo seven years before. There is no custom to have them in here. I heard there are some KURUMI Rice cakes in western part of Japan, but it is not means for walnut. I also ordered mashed beans sauce for rice cake sauce. They have very creamy and rich flavor. I think this is very Japanese way for having with them.
